standards and practises are maintained and upheld. Being part of an organization gives the Dojo credibility and
assures that the levels achieved by the students are accepted at other Shotokan dojos through out the world. The
organization therefore is responsible for testing students on a regular basis, attending seminars and keeping abreast
of new development in the martial arts. Instructors will also accompany students to tournaments and seminars.

card will also contain details of ranks achieved and will be signed by the relevant instructor.

Karate Uniforms:
Uniforms can be purchased through me. I stock a number of sizes, light weight and medium weight uniforms. Prices
vary depending on weight of the material and manufacturer.
Bethany Athletic club members can purchase their uniforms from the athletic club.
Alternatively you could go online and use a search engine to find karate uniforms.
When choosing a uniform you will need to know the students height. Please consult your instructor on choosing the
right uniform. They come in light , medium and heavy weights. This has to do with the thickness of the material. More
advanced students usually choose heavyweight uniforms.
Upon successful completion of the test the student will receive a belt and a certificate. The fee is not refundable.
However, should the student barely miss the mark, he or she may be asked to work on the shortcomings and be able
to retest one month later at no additional cost. The examiner will determine if this applies to a student right after the
test is completed.
In general, Instructors will only ask students to test if they think the student is ready for the next level.
Tournament registration fees differ from organization to organization. Some are as low as $20 and some as high as
$65. Students do not have to take part in tournaments should they choose not to.
Seminar prices differ from organization to organization as well. Just as is the case with tournaments the cost can
range anywhere between $20 to $60 usually depending on the length of the seminar and the person teaching the
seminar. Students do not have to attend any seminars but are advised to do so on occasion. Usually the teachers at
the seminars are well rounded and knowledgeable individuals from whom we all can learn. Your instructor will
recommend the seminars that would be good to attend for the students.
AAKF – American Amateur Karate Federation. The AAKF hold seminars and tournaments regularly and it would be
beneficial to attend some of these.
USANKF - USA National Karate Federation
